U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will travel to Ukraine this week to discuss a potential deal concerning rare earth minerals, according to a source familiar with his plans.
Bessent will be the first cabinet-level official in U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to visit Ukraine.
Both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Trump have expressed interest in a pact that would give the United States access to Ukraine's rare earth resources in exchange for continued support in fending off the Russian invasion.
The source, who requested anonymity as the plans were still confidential, did not offer additional details on the itinerary. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Bloomberg first reported Bessent's travel plans.

A number of other U.S. officials are traveling to Europe this week, in part to discuss the Ukraine war with Kyiv and other European allies. They include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Keith Kellogg, the U.S. envoy for the Ukraine war.

Look for ALL OUR MONEY, ALSO!!!!!
Why are we talking with Ukraine about things they don’t have or control, when we are three weeks past the date when Trump promised to end the war?
Obviously it’s going to take longer for President Trump to end Putin’s invasion.
Odds high story bogus. Debt ceiling issues approach. Treasury is relevant to those, not to geology assessments probably not performed.
All while Trump is Art of the Dealing with Greenland in mind.
And Steve Witkoff is in Moscow today talking sanctions and oil prices with Putin’s negotiators.
Don’t get shot down.

@realDonaldTrump
I am sending Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent to Ukraine to meet President Zelensky. This War MUST and WILL END SOON — Too much Death and Destruction. The U.S. has spent BILLIONS of Dollars Globally, with little to show. WHEN AMERICA IS STRONG, THE WORLD IS AT PEACE.

Ukraine doesn’t have $500B in rare earth resources, so its a boondoggle.
We haven’t see the Epstein or JFK files yet either. Not even one page, and probably won’t for quite awhile.
That they do not have or control now. I think that is the whole point. The future might be much different than Russia had hoped.
A most excellent point.
President Trump has reportedly given Russia and Ukraine a February 24th deadline to agree to a framework to begin ceasefire negotiations.
The story was “going to discuss rare earth minerals”.
Making a trip to discuss money is not that.
I would guess Treasury could be sent to organize drawdown of flow, or fund an exile residence. It makes no sense to send the Secy of Treasury to discuss geology.
The Secretary of Treasury is there to discuss an economic deal, not geology.
Maybe, he should better go to California, and talk about re-starting the Mountain Pass mines.
You mean Valerie Plame’s invasion. This is the war the US demanded. So, the Russians finally agreed, against their wishes. Now they will control and own the natural resources of the country they didnt want to invade but we insisted they invade.
It is my understanding that most of the valuable minerals are under land that is now supporting the Russian army.
Right. And also still no declassification of all the Russian hoax documents that were promised 5 years ago.
