Or they want a way to affect all but 500 million humans so they die out in a few generations through lack of reproduction? At least, that’s the population goal I heard the de-populationists had, IIRC.

Seriously I’m with Elon Musk on this issue. There is probably no upper limit on human life on earth. It will naturally reach a peak, and probably already has, and from time to time things sort out. I don’t have to like how it happens but it does and is part of nature. War and disease and pestilence though we can control at least two of those if we try.

In the year around 1800 people were worried when the human population hit 1 billion and now we’re 8x that number and plenty of resources to support it. We are an ingenious and innovative species. We create efficiencies and surpluses. We sometimes make mistakes but we do a good job overall. If managed properly, without corruption, we can house feed and provide good health to 20 billion people. Without having to eat insects.
