Irv Gotti, a famed music producer and the founder of the hip-hop label Murder Inc., died. He was 54.
"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Irving 'Irv Gotti' Lorenzo, on February 5, 2025. Surrounded by family and friends, he departed this world, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him and the countless lives he touched," his family said in a statement.
They called him an "incredible man, a true visionary who transformed the hip-hop industry and changed the game for artists and fans alike."
"His passion for music and dedication to his craft inspired many, and his contributions will continue to influence future generations," his family said.
The family did not reveal the cause of death.
Murder Inc. produced superstars Ashanti and Ja Rule, the label's first artist. Ja Rule landed his first top 40 Billboard Hot 100 with "Holla Holla" from his 1999 debut album, "Venni Vetti Vecci," Billboard.com reported. The label's success skyrocketed, and from 1999 to 2005 Ja Rule had 17 Hot 100 hits.

Ja Rule’s "Always on Time" and Fat Joe's "What's Luv?" — both of which featured Ashanti — also became chart toppers.
Gotti produced nearly 30 Hot 100 hits for Ashanti, Ja Rule, Ye, DMX, Fat Joe, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z and other artists, Billboard reported. In 2003, he won a Grammy for co-producing Ashanti's debut studio album.

Wasnt he musically close to Nelly?
Welll he was DEFINITELY close to Nelly’s wife Ashanti both professionally and personally.
Nelly performed at Inauguration.
Yes maybe not dated but they were at least friendly and he produced some of her biggest hits that I grew up. Notably her duets with Ja Rule.

Not sure how he died. But in his line of work ... perhaps he died of ‘natural causes’. Dunno.
