The waters of Cape Cod Bay are coming for the big brown house perched on the edge of a sandy bluff high above the beach.
It’s just a matter of when.
Erosion has marched right up to the concrete footings of the multimillion-dollar home where it overlooks the bay.
...
Massive sliding doors that used to open onto a wide deck, complete with a hot tub, are now barricaded by thin wooden slats that prevent anyone from stepping through and falling 25 feet to the beach below.
...
The owner.. removed the deck and other parts of the house, including a small tower that held the primary bedroom, before stopping work and falling into a standoff with the town.
He’s since sold the place to a salvage company, according to his attorney, that says it won’t pay for work.
Officials in Wellfleet worry the home’s collapse will damage delicate beds in their harbor where farmers grow oysters that are among New England’s most prized.
A report commissioned by the town projects if nothing is done, the 5,100-square-foot home will tumble into the bay within three years — and possibly much sooner.
...
Its original owners, Mark and Barbara Blasch, sought permission from the commission in 2018 to build a 241-foot-wide seawall to stave off erosion.
The commission’s seven members — all volunteers — rejected the seawall

He should have asked for permission to build the seawall first. Or should he just build the seawall and fight them off?
Two bad the author at AP who wrote this article is not identified. We could have congratulated him or her for getting the requisite climate change angle into the story. Well done, whoever you are!
If you’re fond of sand dunes and salty air
Running through your living room here and there
You’re sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod . . .
And so castles made of sand, fall into the sea, eventually.

That’ll be the day I go back to Annandale ....
Oh, wrong end of the country ...
Never mind....
the true definition of climate change...
>>>This was in the Bible................<<<
Even way back to the first word, verse. It’s quite the scenic trail, all very punny:
“Its original owners, Mark and Barbara Blasch, sought permission from the commission in 2018 to build a 241-foot-wide seawall to stave off erosion.”
Barbara... barabara:
ברא*שית *ברא* אלהים את השמים ואת הארץ*
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning [בראשית] God created [ברא] the heaven and the earth.
bara, ברא
= 241
And wouldn’t you know it, just this morning I was reading the thread you had posted about MOP bombs and I thought, hey I should look that up (the etym, which is the same as the Hebrew word for a map)...
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/mop
Then over on the page about mops, patent 241 (I still had the page open):
History
The word (then spelled mappe) is attested in English in 1496, but new refinements and variations of mop designs have been introduced, from time to time.
For example, American inventor Jacob Howe received US patent #241 for a mop holder in 1837[2] and Thomas W. Stewart (US patent #499,402) in 1893.[3]

Be it known that I, the undersigned, JACOB Howe, of Worcester, in the county of Worcester in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Construction of Mop-Heads andy the Mode of Securing Them upon Handles, of which the following is a full and exact description...

Maybe JACOB can run over to the Cape for the clean up. He seems.. efficient.
“It’s not clear who owns CQN Salvage.”
It’s not even clear what CQN stands for. Perhaps “Sea/See Queen”.
Oddly, I tossed CQN into wiktionary and all I got were blank squares for Old Uyghur text, but hovering over them indicated a bunch of different colors and the repeated message to “wynk on”. 😉

If anyone remembers my Tzimtzum thread about the CMYK diagram, 241 is the area of the “key” space in the middle, for all the colors.
CQN — I’ll go with “sequin” for now (plus it’s got that vesica piscis shape like on the color diagram):
The sequin or zechin (/ˈsiːkwɪn/; Venetian and Italian: zecchino [dzekˈkiːno]) is a gold coin minted by the Republic of Venice from the 13th century onwards.
>>>
No other coin design has ever been produced over such a long historical period.
>>>
Initially called “ducat” (ducato), for the ruling Doge of Venice who was prominently depicted on it...
>>>
Coin collectors often try to accumulate a complete set of zecchini of
“all the Doges”.

If only someone would have said something about building a house on sand.
I hear the Obamas have wrecked the charm of Martha’s Vineyard and there are many hoses for sale on the Vineyard.
Peter's Denial by Carl Bloch
Same type of erosion problems happening on Nantucket Island, and their homes are even more expensive. The Nantucket governing body has only allowed very limited erosion control (I’ve seen it) and it is practically useless in stopping the erosion. If looks like biodegradable jute bags filled with sand. Concrete, steel, rock not allowed. Crazy.
Wait until the next nor’easter.
“climate change” is a convulsive disease, kind of like bulimia.
