A female driver was killed and her passenger seriously injured after they were tossed from a Tesla that flipped and then burst into flames on the FDR Drive in Manhattan early Tuesday, cops said.
The Tesla struck a guardrail and flipped on the FDR near 70th Street on the Upper East Side just after 2:30 a.m., the NYPD said — with photos showing huge chunks of the electric vehicle scattered across the road.
Both the woman and her 26-year-old passenger were ejected from the car, which burst into flames

Prayers I know that area well.
Who’d have thought random Tesla’s impacting gaurd rails and exploding by themselves killing their passengers in deliberate murder suicide.
Speeding driver, no seatbelts
in an unrelated story, DOGE has announced cuts the Federal Highway Administration investigative division
LOl Seems Tesla has replaced the SUV in the Alt Left “get them” list
SUV Update: Runaway SUV!
Mar 28, 2008 Rush Limbaugh Show
RUSH: You may remember — it seems like a long time now, maybe a year or more, maybe even longer than that. Every day, ladies and gentlemen — there were headlines in the newspapers all over the country about runaway SUVs doing this, driving themselves off of the sixth floor of parking garages, running off of interstate bridges, all kinds of things. They were running into each other, running over people. Of course, the point of the headline: ‘Runaway SUV!’ SUV this, SUV that, was part of the environmentalist wacko movement. They were furthering the agenda of the Sierra Club and other environmentalist wackos, the Drive-Bys were, by trying to portray the SUV as a deadly invention, a deadly creation on its own. But we have been in a bit of a lull. There haven’t been such stories for quite a while. I mean it does seem like a year, until now.
> Speeding driver, no seatbelts <
No seatbelts was my first thought, too. But in this case I guess that didn’t make any difference. Had they not been thrown from the Tesla, they would have been burned to death.
Anyway, I suppose the time (2:30 am) could explain everything. Bars closing, drunks driving home.
Yeah. Musk is on the lefts s*** list. Any Tesla accident will be sensationalized
Doesnt AOC have a white Tesla like that?
Tesla is the new SUV.
I guess states no longer have their own investigative divisions? I wonder what the telemetry from the Tesla will show, maybe FAFO?
Good memory, Johnnie!
Not really. All the Tesla’s have a very low center of gravity.
Which is one of the reasons they handle so well.
The problem is that these EVs acceleration is incredible. I am not a big EV fanboy because of the Lithium/ion battery safety.
However, they are really fun to drive. Especially the Plaid version. By far the fastest vehicle I have ever ridden in. Including a Porsche 911 turbo.
bttt
The point is that everytime there was an accident, the media would go out of their way to point out an SUV was involved.
Now they will do the same with Teslas.
I say this as a non-fan of Tesla cars myself.
By far the fastest vehicle I have ever ridden in.
+++++++++++
You speak truth. They are almost motorcycle fast, if you know what I mean.
10-4
just like the Ford Explorer, Ford Pinto and Chevy Corvair.
I am not a Tesla owner. I would never buy one at this point.
Who knows about ten years from now.
Obviously, Tesla’s are now BAD because of Elon. I wonder how AOC mentally justifies it to herself.
My customer in Idaho who owns the Model S Plaid. It is the one I rode in a couple years ago. He says it is a better car than his former Porsche 911 turbo. He also has some of the cheapest electrical KHW rates in the USA because of the hydro dams on the Snake River. FYI, he also has a full size Dodge Ram pickup with a Cummins Diesel engine. His business also has multiple diesel powered large SEMI trucks.
The "Federal Highway Investigation Division" is not a formally recognized entity, but it likely refers to the investigative functions within the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), which is a part of the U.S. Department of Transportation responsible for overseeing the design, construction, and maintenance of the nation's highway system; investigations could include potential violations related to highway projects, safety concerns, or compliance with federal regulations, often conducted by the FHWA's Office of Civil Rights or in collaboration with the Department of Transportation's Office
Yes, prior to the ride in my customers Model S Plaid the fastest land vehicle I ever drove was my Kawasaki KZ650. Top speed 125 mph. Off the line though it was not nearly as fast as my Kawasaki KDX 175 dirt bike.
Nothing is as fast as a 2 stroke motorcycle off the line.
Except an EV.
One of the vehicles I would like to try is an Ebike Pro SS.
They came out about a year ago. It is basically a EV motor cross bike. Top speed 60 mph.

They originally were $4900. They are down to $4400
Just the battery is $2000.
“The FDR would be a City of New York issue or a State of NY issue it would have nothing to do with the Feds. FHA does not investigate individual crashes. It would be looking at patterns of crashes to determin if there was a design flaw or a construction fault causes the highway to be systematically unsafe.

all that, is not funny though.
