Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the controversial environmental lawyer turned public health critic, is set to find out on Tuesday if he has cleared the first hurdle to become the nation’s top health official when the Senate Finance Committee votes on his nomination.
Kennedy is definitely not a traditional choice and there are things for Republican senators to not like about him. But he is definitely part of the new majority Republican coalition, whether Republicans like it or not. Vote against him and Gabbard at the party’s peril.
Kennedy probably shouldn’t be given all of HHS, just the NIH or the FDA.
U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D.
@SenBillCassidy
I’ve had very intense conversations with Bobby and the White House over the weekend and even this morning. I want to thank VP JD specifically for his honest counsel. With the serious commitments I’ve received from the administration and the opportunity to make progress on the issues we agree on like healthy foods and a pro-American agenda, I will vote yes.
