I’ve asked numerous sources “how is diversity a good thing” when being told that diversity is a valuable asset to any organization because “we can learn from other cultures” yet no one can tell me what we learn that is better than how we do things. It’s just an assumption pedaled as something we should all accept and it’s racist to question it.

I had to sit through one of those ‘’diversity seminars’’ at the hospital I work in.

A small stuffy conference room with some two dozen people who would have rather had root canal and some Black woman droning on about how ‘We're all equal and diversity is our strength’’. After nearly two hours of this tedium I asked the woman "If we're all equal how is diversity our strength?'' She couldn't answer the question.

- yet no one can tell me what we learn that is better -

I saw some of the materials used in the D&I USAFA squadron training. One task involved listing as many G-animals as they could think of. The list of animals provided on the next page was absurd, many perhaps known only to people living in an obscure province in China, or the backwoods of Appalachia. Then it closed by talking about the power of combining diverse perspectives.

As I reviewed the list which contained such popular and widely-known animals as Golden-Crowned Flying Fox and Gomphotherium, I could only shake my head in disgust.
