The United States wants Ukraine to hold elections, potentially by the end of the year, especially if Kyiv can agree a truce with Russia in the coming months, President Donald Trump's top Ukraine official told Reuters. Keith Kellogg, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, said in an interview that Ukrainian presidential and parliamentary elections, suspended during the war with Russia, "need to be done".
"Most democratic nations have elections in their time of war. I think it is important they do so," Kellogg said. "I think it is good for democracy. That's the beauty of a solid democracy, you have more than one person potentially running."

The Trump plan is still evolving and no policy decisions have been made, but Kellogg and other White House officials have discussed in recent days pushing Ukraine to agree to elections as part of an initial truce with Russia, two people with knowledge of those conversations and a former U.S. official briefed about the election proposal said.
Trump officials are also debating whether to push for an initial ceasefire before trying to broker a more permanent deal, the two people familiar with the Trump administration discussions said. If presidential elections were to take place in Ukraine, the winner could be responsible for negotiating a longer-term pact with Moscow, the people said.

Donald Trump’s ‘100 Day’ Ukraine Peace Plan Leaked: Report
Trump’s alleged 100-day plan to end the war in Ukraine includes conducting a phone call with Putin in late January or early February, meeting with both Putin and Zelensky in February or March, and declaring a ceasefire along the front lines by Easter, which falls on April 20 this year.
In declaring a ceasefire, Ukrainian troops would also be withdrawn from Kursk, and an International Peace Conference would commence its work to forge an agreement between Russia and Ukraine to end the war, to be mediated by other global powers. A declaration on the agreed parameters for ending the war would be released by May 9, after which Kyiv would be asked not to extend martial law or mobilize.

The alleged proposals also include allowing parties advocating for peace with Russia to run in Kyiv’s elections and holding separate consultations about maintaining a European contingent of peacekeepers after the conclusion of the war.

Is the US debating with itself again, without consulting Russia?
neocons never learn.
There is no chance the Russians agree to that.
My personal scenario for a long lasting peace in Ukraine has always been Ukrainian senior military officers who replace Zelensky, and who are Russia friendly via a lifetime of friendship with their Russian military classmates.
So then you have a Ukraine government. It would be entirely technocratic. All CIA and MI6 types executed. Farms resume operations. Trains, power etc.
Elections would then be held, but no time soon.
It’s really none of our business.
Fact is, some places aren’t capable of supporting an enlightened style of governance, and need strong man leadership.
The Ukraine is one of them.
Who will push Ruzzia out of YouCrayne?
French Surrender Monkeys?
FWIW, this is assuming that Putin is willing to negotiate.
This is the Trump deal and it’s been discussed with Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine will probably agree to the deal next week in Washington DC. Then Russia will play more games and then finally agree.
Initial agreements with US- Ukraine next week, Russia week after
Trump meeting with Zelensky
Trump meeting with Putin
Easter Ceasefire April 20
Ukraine withdraws from Kursk April 21
Parameters agreement by May 8th - No NATO for Ukraine, Ukraine joins EU by 2030, Ukraine keeps size of military, Continued US military Support, Russia keeps currently occupied territory, but doesn’t get additional annexed territory
May 9th- Putin victory parade
May 10th- Ukraine ends martial law and makes plans for October Presidential and Parliamentary elections
October - First round of Ukraine elections
November - Second round of Ukraine elections
January 2026 - Negotiations on permanent peace deal
December 2028 - Sanctions on Russia ended
Nor is there a chance that Russia will accept Zelensky remaining in office. That would be a non-starter with them.

Got that telepathy thing going again, hey?
Trump can’t negotiate anything until he has accurate intelligence. So nothing can happen until Tulsi Gabbard is in place and has had time to structure briefings accurately.
Month or two.
Train’s left the station. April 20 ceasefire is the deal. Interesting because normal Easter and orthodox Easter both fall on April 20 this year,
“Is the US debating with itself again, without consulting Russia?”
Eventually Trump will have to get rid of Kellogg, he’s far too compromised by CNN to do his job.
I wonder if there is any purple ink from that election 20 years ago. Was that Afghanistan?
“Nor is there a chance that Russia will accept Zelensky remaining in office. That would be a non-starter with them.”
Putin’s been clear that he doesn’t consider Zelensky to be the legitimate ruler of Ukraine as his term has expired and no one has yet been elected president. So, to Putin, Zelensky is no different than some hot Ukraine babe off the street signing a peace deal with Russia. Ukraine could honor that deal, or Ukraine could simply call the deal Illegitimate because it was signed by a person in no position to represent Ukraine.
So, elections first in Ukraine, but of course the elections will have to allow ALL potential candidates to run, at least the ones that are still alive. Then, maybe, talks.
