Stupid guards. I'm a 77 year old female who retired as a Sergeant. I only worked in male prisons. Had I worked in a female prison, I probably would have been fired for kicking a female prisoner's ass. I had two older sisters, and had previously worked in office situations with old biddies, so I knew how petty they could be, so chose to go to Auburn prison in 1980.
I had more problems as a new female officer from the brass, administration, and officers younger than me, but with more time on the job. The Superintendent couldn't bring himself to call me Officer -----. He called me Mrs. -----. I told him I was divorced, and please not address me that way.
I met the Deputy Superintendent in the yard within a month of starting the job., He didn't even say hello before asking me "Do you have your name on a transfer list?" Funny that he couldn't even distinguish between the 4-5 female officers working at the prison at the time, and he didn't know that you had to be on the job for a full year, and made permanent, in order to ask to be put on a transfer list. Thankfully the job got easier the more time I had in.
Men should not be guarding women and women should not be guarding men. As a caveat, perhaps have men in women’s prisons in case muscle is needed, but the norm should be no interaction.
I don’t get the idea of getting down with somebody, who could compromise you, just because they are offering.
