This reminds me of “A day without a Mexican day” about 18 years ago. We were having our house added onto and renovated. 2 of the workers didn’t show to work on that day.

One guy told me it was for the “day off” thing. It slowed down the work and everyday was costing me. I instructed the foreman that they were not allowed on my property again. He said he planned on firing them anyway because he was never asked for the day off. And he would not have granted it had they asked.
