Google Maps has caved to President Donald Trump's demands and will change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
The change will be visible in the U.S. once it is officially updated in the U.S. Geographic Names System, Google said in an X post on Monday.
But the name will still remain Gulf of Mexico on Google in Mexico. Outside of the two countries, users will see both names on Google Maps.
The Trump administration's Interior Department said on Friday it had officially changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and the Alaskan peak Denali, the tallest mountain in North America, to Mount McKinley.
Google Maps, which is owned by Alphabet's Google, will also make a similar change with Mount McKinley.
Trump ordered the name changes as part of a flurry of executive actions hours after taking office on January 20, making good on a campaign promise.
'As directed by the President, the Gulf of Mexico will now officially be known as the Gulf of America and North America's highest peak will once again bear the name Mount McKinley,' the Interior Department said in a statement last week.
Alaska's towering peak had been called Mount McKinley before, in honor of former U.S. President William McKinley, but was renamed Denali - meaning 'tall' in the Koyukon Indigenous language - in 1975 at the state's request.

It’s been Gulf of Mexico since 1550, when Spain controlled the whole area around it, what is now Mexico, Texas, Florida, and southern Alabama and Mississippi.

Google Maps still have “Gulf of Mexico.”
If you have an iPhone, go to Apple maps, click on Gulf of Mexico and correct the name to Gulf of America.
If enough of us do it, Apple will cave.
Go to your mapping service (Google, Apple, Bing, etc) and report a problem with the name. Tell them it is Gulf of America.
Still “gulf of Mexico” on googleMaps, as of now .

Let us back up and look at the big picture.
The left and the media (I know I am being redundant here) are going to attack President Trump for anything he says or does.
My take on this is that President Trump is using this (and the fact that it takes time for them to react) by tossing out items that will get their attention and attacks but will no real function other then as bait for them.
Renaming the gulf to GULF OF AMERICA is one of those things. How much time and energy will the left use attacking this action, time and energy they won’t have to attack those issues he cares about.
I expect to see more such items being proposed by President Trump.
It’s not a diss on Mexico — Mexico and the USA are both a part of N. America.
