Wait, wasn't the sequel supposed to be about how E.T. went to Sicily and fell in love with a beautiful Sicilian girl, but she died in a spaceship explosion?
In 2002, Spielberg prepared a "20th anniversary" edition of E.T., and in the final minutes, he edited the film so all the guns the police and FBI had were changed into walkie talkies.
Screw that! E.T. shot first!

“E.T The Extra-Terrestrial” is one of those movies that doesn’t need a sequel and should be a once in a lifetime experience, just like “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” or “Close Encounters Of The Third Kind”.
