It may be a good time to grant Edward Snowden a full presidential pardon, bring him home, and let him be a senior advisor to John Ratcliffe.
Playing the old word substitution game, how seriously would one treat "... whimpered hours later to host Joy Behar and Whoopie Goldberg on America's most popular TV talk show."
As this is 1) not a report of official dialogue between the Trump administration and the Putin administration, and 2) written in English by this English-language press, one is assured that none of this kind of news is intended for Russians, Ukrainians, and most in Europe. It is intended for us in these United States.
The article states "It could come via trilateral negotiations, or by delivering a decisive one-two punch to bloody Putin both militarily and economically."
Foretelling the future with model verbs is fascinating. I'll wait to learn what happens WHEN it happens. Not with an "if" and a "could."
President Trump had and still has our vote. In our house, we don't vote with anybody's "most popular TV talk show."
This is probably all theater. Trump will ultimately broker a deal favorable to Russia. Russia will get what it wants in territory and Trump will be able to say he forced Russia to end the war. That’s how the game is played.
“new Sheriff in town”.
Well, except the new Sheriff has no say over Russia. Maybe the new Sheriff should fix the US borders, pay the US debt, stop the US from blowing our the pipelines of other countries, stop the US State Department from conducting covert “color revolutions” all around the world, stop the US from developing deadly bioweapons and fake COVID vaccines that kill hundreds of millions.
Putin has his country and Trump has his. They should each focus on on doing their own jobs and now pretending to be the Boss of the other.
In the contest between KGB gangster and New York billionaire developer who won the American presidency back after defeat, the Bolshevik killer and thief is outclassed and does not stand a chance. Putin knows how to steal and murder, but Trump knows how to divert the flows of money so as to starve out Russia economically. Trump is also willing to permit missiles from Ukraine to definitively wreck Russia's military power if it comes to that.
This is going to be fun to watch, as the neo-Soviet empire of Putin's fantasy dies from inexorable economic pressure and military defeat, just as the original Soviet Union did. Putin thinks that control of Ukraine is at stake in the Ukraine war. As Russia's elite is beginning to realize, the true stakes are Putin's continuance in power and Russia's survival in her current form.
The Man from Mar-A-Lago
Tarantino movie title.

You funny guy...
There is nothing left to sanction Russia over. The only tariffs that can be placed on Russian goods are ones that are essential (like fertilizer) and would increase inflation here.
We're going to drill, baby drill and Trump will place tariffs on Chinese goods if a deal can't be worked out that is favorable to us. But, all that is going to happen anyway.
Trump is merely using the "threat" to Russia as means of dulling attacks on tariffs.
You mean Trump… the New Sheriff who has just frozen $3 Billion Funding
for YouCraynee for 90 Days?
We Non-Zeepers love this new sheriff!
Putin’s doppelganger will be negotiating with Trump from a midgets position. Russki is a third world shyte hole with some oil and gas to sell to India and China.
Moscow and St Petersburg glitter with oligarch gold. The rest of Russia is poor and third world. It has vast regions with Appalachia style rural poverty. Where you are a rich man if you own 5 goats and a dairy cow and Three cannon fodder sons in Putin’s Ukraine invasion army..
