Absolutely not... It is the same industry wide around the globe. Detailed data theft is now a standard industry protocol. There is nothing you can hide from them. They track your GPS location in real time, access cameras and microphones, contacts, text, purchase app details, Everything... And websites are just as bad at collecting data. Almost every website uses Goggle services and Google is the ULTIMATE hidden spy service. Google even helps China spy on their own citizens. The very phone makers themselves, both Android and Apple are doing the very same thing. Even your phone carrier is collecting data and selling it to the highest bidder.
All of these will sell this data to China if they happen to be the highest bidder. So banning TikTok does absolutely nothing to keep China from getting it from other sources anyway.
No TikTok is not any worse...
But that isn’t even the point. The point is the users are U.S. citizens and U.S. Businesses. The app and who owns the app are completely irrelevant to the argument. The rights of THESE U.S. Citizens and Business is the true argument at hand. And believe it or not... There are a lot of Christians, Conservatives, and Patriots who use TikTok. They are not all stinking Chinese liberal gays. That is a complete misconception coming from the ignorant who have no clue what they are talking about.
Re: 63 - At the very least, the PRC is an adversary both economically (depending on the item / issue) and militarily (where they are a near peer in East Asia).
There is tension between the First Amendment aspects and national security. And there is real disagreement on how to proceed.
But I believe the “perfect is the enemy of the good”. Yes, US sites need to be reined in regarding data collection, etc.
But that does NOT mean thatch TikTok issue cannot be acted upon now.
