TikTok is ultimately controlled by an adversarial foreign power, a near-peer militarily in East Asia.

Some posters have pushed - ignorantly in my view - that until something is done about all the other tech companies having access to our data, that TikTok should not be singled out.
Or that the only information that TikTok could possibly reveal are mundane videos about dancing or cooking, etc.

This law does absolutely nothing to prevent China from getting the very same data from thousands of other sources. Those other sources are a huge problem too because they are selling the data to China anyhow. You could turn the whole internet off and our OWN politicians and staffers would sell it to them. Want to regulate so that China doesn’t get it? Then apply the same regulations across the whole industry universally and “maybe” then China will not get them. Until then we are wasting our time with laws like this and the only ones hurt by it are us.

I am an American, I own an American website on an American server in Chicago, how about I track everything you do and where you go and steal your name, address, phone number, and credit card number and sell them to China? Is that absolutely cool with you because I am an American Domain and not a Chinese domain?

Well I have news for you... I am a webmaster and can testify as fact, that just about EVERY Website, domain, phone app, and phone carrier in the world including in the U.S. is doing that very thing to you right now behind your back.
It gets worse... Every store rewards card, purchase, and tracking of your purchase locations through these are also being auctioned and sold to the highest bidder worldwide in real time as it is collected. The secret theft of our data and movements is a huge market that is already happening in real time.
This bill is absolutely NOTHING by comparison in the big picture. If we are going to slap someone, they ALL need to be slapped universally for this theft and hidden violations. Slapping just one does absolutely no good.
That one will just buy it from thousands of others doing the very same thing.

Who is “you guys”? Show me one post where I have categorized anyone in a negative light if they don’t support Ukraine. If you look at my posts re: the Russia - Ukraine War you’ll see I believe the Powell Doctrine is applicable even for the use of proxy forces by the US. And that I don’t believe the criteria for meeting the Powell Doctrine has been satisfied. I have been critical of those posters on both sides not being able to effectively read and discern news and reports related to the war.

Now that was a silly stab. All webmaster means is that I am a lowly mechanic and understand the inner workings of the machine. I’m just trying to share this factual knowledge with you about how the machine actually works. You questioned my logic and my logic is based on real knowledge. You only knew half of the reality when you judged me. You might want to educate yourself more about reality and the whole true picture before you judge others.
