Donald Trump will order the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska’s Mount Denali in his first hours as the 47th president, The Post has learned.
The Gulf of Mexico will be rechristened the Gulf of America, and Denali, the highest-peaked mountain in North America, will revert back to Mount McKinley — which it was called in the sight of the US government before former President Barack Obama changed the name in 2015.
The renaming of the two natural features is to honor “American greatness,” according to a preview of the orders.

I figured he was trolling about the Gulf of America, but thought he was serious about Mount McKinley.
I can understand renaming something on American land, but how can he rename international waters? That puts all our geography mapmakers at odds with those in other countries.
It’s going to be a really bad day for the left
I’m sure AOC will be posting more mental breakdown videos like yesterday
Yes, please. She’s better than Saturday Night Live.
I’d love to see all far-left “protesters” arrested and fined for blocking traffic and the money used to replace all the historical Confederate statues and shrines and all the military Fort remaned with their original historical names again.
North America, Central America, and South America
It makes perfect sense to me.
That chick needs a straight jacket and a rubber room
“She’s better than Saturday Night Live”
These days that’s a pretty low bar to clear. 🤣
(Of course the water is only on the coasts of USA and Mexico, but you knew what I meant ;^))
No oil extraction will be allowed in the Gulf of Mexico, but extraction in the Gulf of America shall commence at noon today.
:-)
"That chick needs a straight jacket and a rubber room"
There it is!
Long ago, Spain controlled Florida and Texas was part of Mexico, so Gulf of Mexico was a valid name.
Changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico would be like yanking down a historical statue.
It’s called strategy.
The Art of the Deal.
Muck up a contract with a lot of unimportant details.
It makes the other party’s head spin.
The U.S. Board on Geographic Names (BGN) is the interagency organization established to maintain uniform geographic name usage throughout the federal government. It provides the official place names required by law for use in federal government publications, including maps, web sites, and documents. The standardized spelling and use of geographic names allows the federal government to communicate clearly and unambiguously about places, reducing the potential for confusion.Note the States generally follow the Federal names. I can see CA, IL, NY, MN and other insane states sticking with Gulf of Mexico. Buckle up!While the Board’s authority only applies to the federal government, the Board’s decisions and its standards of use for geographic names are almost always followed by state and local governments and by commercial organizations. The BGN does not initiate naming or renaming actions. It responds to proposals received from Federal agencies; State, local, and Tribal governments; and the public.
The usefulness of standardizing geographic names is well proven, even if it is often taken for granted. The United Nations actively supports international standardization of geographic names by encouraging strong programs of national standardization. More than 50 nations have some type of national names authority.
I suppose all laws restricting oil recovery in the Gulf of Mexico will no longer apply to this area.
Panama Canal next, please. Should have been the American Canal on day one.
I don’t object to the name. I just don’t understand how he can make that particular name-change unilaterally. I’m really seriously asking because it confuses me.
Given that I stopped watching SNL after Belushi, I’d have to agree on the low bar.
