Her voice in the Broadway version for such a young girl at the time was phenomenal.

The play itself was meant to be a paean to FDR, and an attack on Nixon. This would have disgusted conservative creator of “Little Orphan Annie” Harold Grey.

When John Ford directed the movie version, he definitely changed the story to soften the pro-FDR feel of the story.
