I think sometimes, there are stages where you just have to settle back and be a “Hallmark” grandparent, assuming there are grandchildren. Perhaps , as you would reflect back, your own parents may have perceived some of the things you did in a similar light. Then, hope, with time and experience, your children will rediscover those old relationships with you as a long-lost treasure.

I wish they would rediscover a whole lot of things.  At Publix a few hours ago the cashier asked if I wanted to give to the Special Olympics?   I told her yeah, give em a ten spot.   The young lady was totally nonplussed.   I looked at her and realized I had given her a brain lock.   I told her Yes, ten dollars.

The next time I'll tell her, I guess so, give em a sawbuck.

Then after that, if the Special Olympics appeal is still on going, I'll say, I can split with a "Hamilton", because that's my middle name.

Kids just don't read anymore.
