This was flying around from 1942 to 1947, to me this should show people that there have been a lot of strange and secret aircraft in American skies for a very long time, and as we know, some people have vivid imaginations and can write paragraphs of nonsense from thin air.

I have read a ridiculous number of UFO books and I can safely say that nobody has claimed to see a UFO that looked anything like that picture.
