Gen Zers are increasingly becoming pet parents now that raising human babies feels like more of a pipe dream—and it’s propelling a job into the spotlight.
Veterinarians have struck gold, ranked at No. 1 on this year’s Best Jobs of 2025 report from Indeed. The study looks into which roles offer the highest salaries, sustained growth, and flexibility—and thanks to generous Gen Z pet parents who only want the best for their fur babies, veterinarians have made (and topped) the list of best gigs for the first time ever since data collection started in 2019.
Out of the 25 ranked positions, vets are also the most prevalent in the market, with 1,065 job postings per 1 million total jobs. Meanwhile, job shares increased 124% between 2021 and 2024.

no guarantee that kids take care of their parents.
People should not have kids just to have free nurses.
Gen Z probably doesn’t understand how babies are made. The few that might don’t understand when the he/him undress a she/they and there’s no plug in port for sperm deposit.
JUST WAIT FOR THE FIRST $500 VET BILL FOR WELNESS CHECKS AND JABS. WITH nRNA IB THEM.
My niece, who also has four children, is also a great dog lover. Her Great Dane recently started ailing and the vet recommended an MRI in aid of a diagnosis. It was going to cost $4K. So high vet costs are nothing new. I also had an old girlfriend who put her dog through $10K of chemo and radiation after he was diagnosed with cancer. He died anyway and probably never understood all he was going through.
MY MOBILE VET WAS ADAMANT ABOUT NEVER TAKING THAT SHOT.
Neither of us ever did.

While there is no guarantee of sons and daughters taking care of their parents it is a downright, infrangible, inviolable, conclusive, out-and-out, total, unconditioned and absolute guaranteed impossible that your dog or cat can take care of you when you are old.
Even if you die alone your kids will bury you while your dog or cat will eat your face.
If you have a chance to start a family, start one now because them's the rules.
This is mostly correct.
Day care. Car seats. Education costs. Increased insurance. Attendance policies that penalize you for sick kids. Over Time mandates that push you to work 10 to 14 hour shifts.
Kids don’t seem appealing.
However neither do pets like dogs. My friend’s wife is a vet. Most of her customers are older people who are retired.
The issue isn’t a lack of maturity, it is a sickness of society. We are going to collapse soon, because the next two generations were never born.
“Medical and Pet have been two of the fasters growing industries.”
also, in colorado, there’s now an “artisanal” brewery and a pot shop on every corner, so two of the biggest growth industries in colorado are designed to get people stoned ...
perhaps you need a therapy dog...
i will lend you one of my fur babies.
Many veterinarians are now weaponizing our love for our pets to charge rates as high pediatric bills.
“Young people have this delusional expectation that they should have the same standard of living in their 20s that their parents have in their 50s.”
i don’t think that’s a new thing: 50 years ago, my sister had the same expectations ...
Nonsense. They just don’t want the responsibility of raising a child.
A term I hate with a passion.
Exactly. They think they don't deserve to have to start where we did.
The first house we bought was a WRECK but it was all we could afford. And many times during those years, I wondered how we'd have ever made it if we had a mortgage to pay off because we lived pretty much paycheck to paycheck, not out of choice or because of financialmismanagement.
I grew up with very little, and the money I earned I worked to hard for to waste. I was so tight, I squeaked.

Sure, blame them. Don't mention who failed to raise them.
A lot of this younger generation doesn't want to inflict upon children what was inflicted upon them. Having "adults" blame them is part of the problem.
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're going through

Ch-ch-changes, don't tell them to grow up and out of it

Ch-ch-changes, where's your shame?
You've left us up to our necks in it

They're one of the few generations in history that instead of building on those who came before them, they're instead expected to pay for those who came before them. We're $36 trillion in the hole and they're getting the bill.
Having children is one of the most human (and not only human.. ) traits and it has nothing to do with economics. Just look at the highest birth rates occurring in the most underdeveloped countries. Modern youth just can’t be bothered with diapers, sleep deprivation and necessity to abandon the feeling of being a center of the universe.
Why did vet bills go up with Obamacare?
