Former US House speaker says documented people, Dreamers, mothers and children must not be deported
Newt Gingrich, the former US House speaker and presidential hopeful, said a section of his own Republican party was “rabid” over immigration and predicted Donald Trump’s suggestion that he could deport documented people as well as millions of undocumented people will not come to pass.
“I’d be very surprised if you see any significant effort to change the game for people who are here legally,” Gingrich said, weeks before Trump’s return to the White House. “I just think there’s a very small faction of the party that’s rabid about this.”
He also warned that public support for mass deportations would “collapse” if stories began to come out “about mothers or babies or children being deported”.
The president-elect may not welcome Gingrich’s intervention. After all, Trump won last year’s election promising mass deportations involving the armed forces and detention camps.

Nobody cares what you have to say Newt. Isn’t there a love seat waiting for you and Nancy Pelosi to do a climate change advertisement?
Trump cannot and will not try to deport immigrants residing here legally.
Musk and Ramaswamy are for Trump’s massive deportation.
Our side needs to be truthful and quit behaving like lying democrats.
I agree with you
“How do you decide?”
They have to decide, empleo o adios.
Thank you for being truthful.
Newt trying to be relevant. Another asshole helping the RATS with a “ rabid republican “ rant.
I don’t think that Trump is going to deport every illegal or even every illegal that came in under Biden. His first priority will be criminals, suspected terrorist infiltrators, and welfare tourists. Then he will deport some single males who have jobs and clean criminal records. I don’t see him deporting families that are otherwise law-abiding and self-sufficient. Bad optics.
He will enforce our border laws again.
This subject is above newt’s pay grade.
Newt was never too bright. In the case of the deportations, I would expect Trump to offer the 90-95% of Illegals who have NOT otherwise broken the law: The deal would be that they can exit the country, no questions asked, and thus be allowed lawful entry in the future (for work, for visiting people, etc.). If Immigration has to lift a finger to remove them, then we throw the book at them - basically barring entry for 10 years (I think).
For the rest INS gives names and addresses to cooperating state/local governments to arrest and turn-in specific people, in a prioritized order (obviously starting with violent criminals). If the locals won’t cooperate, then INS goes in and not only grabs the criminals, but also anyone else with questionable immigration status.
As for manpower, as sections of The Wall are built, then agents can be freed up for interior work. Also, perhaps use some of the 75% of FBI agents assigned to go after Trump and make them instead do immigration work - double bonus!
Seems rather easy, no need for Newt to wet his pants over it.
“rabid Republicans”
Gotta be careful around those ‘RABIDS’
they may get you back in line.
Round’em up - Ride’em out
Keep dem illegals moving
Put roadblocks on limited access highways, check for drivers’ licenses and insurance. Spray paint windshields of offenders so their vehicles can be confiscated further down the highway.
That would be like holding a gun to your own head and telling Trump, do as I say or I’ll shoot.
“He also warned that public support for mass deportations would “collapse” if stories began to come out...”
So illegal immigration is a good thing? So Biden did a good thing bringing in the world’s worst into the country?
Tens of thousands of Chinese soldiers, Middle Eastern terrorists?
I wonder who pulled Newt Gingrich’s chain.
“If” stories come out. One can safely bet the farm on the deluge of stories being proclaimed 24/7.
Right, in all the talk about who is meeting with Trump etc, Gingrich is nowhere to be found.
By various measures phased in over time the productive will find life barely tolerable and the lazy and criminal ones will find life increasingly unpleasant.
And then there’s ‘Pay to Go’, which might be funded by federal luxury taxes on landscaping, processed food, large house construction, etc.
First 100,000 - $1000/month, first six months, $500/month, next 6 months payable at random times during the month, ten $1000 handouts at short notice dates over the following three years, all payable upon personal claim at Central American consulates, etc.
Lemme guess: Newt dumped Callista and is now dating Dee Dee Scozzafava.
Hi Newt, illegals are not immigrants.
My sanitized reaction to the Sage from Georgia...
