While Egypt was united and still building pyramids during the reign of Pepi II, it started to fragment after his rule, with nomarchs (governors) gaining more power. This ushered in a period that Egyptologists call the First Intermediate Period, which lasted from roughly 2150 to 2030 B.C.

Or about the time of Abraham, who sojourned there briefly as related in Genesis 12:10-20.

Sadly, most of these tombs have been looted and that looting likely took place not long after the burials did. It likely took several people to prepare the dead, build the tomb and bury the body... The treasure they buried with these bodies was obviously valuable stuff. So somebody involved with burial, and knowledgeable about it’s whereabouts and contents would likely raid it at some point.

That’s what makes Tutankhamun’s tomb so amazing... All that treasure and nobody ever looted it. Everybody involved in his burial must have died in some natural calamity or war. Otherwise, they would’ve looted his tomb at some point.

150 years of chaos. Much was lost, even more forgotten, many died.

So that big rock slab, which was obviously cut and set in place, was placed back by thieves?

Because it looks like that is what happened if that was the lid to his grave. It certainly is not part of the roof which seems intact.
