Until it runs into reality, yes. Not only is it difficult to form new relationships, but the long-standing ones are tough to maintain, even in one's own family.
You always vacationed with the kids, you went to fun places with the kids and their kids, but the day comes when they have to factor in your advancing infirmities...
"If we take Grandpa, we can't stay there as long. He gets tired."
So Grandpa stays home that time. And one day, somebody has to stay home with him.
It's an inevitable part of life, if you live long enough. Best you can do is live as wholesome and godly a life as you can.
If you make it to 100, people will start to find you interesting once again. ;)
2008 crash I was never able to recover from
Kept trying to use my decades of I/T experience to no avail - when it had always opened doors easily
Lonely? I’m thinking about putting in an ad. Widower, 79 seeking mature, nondrinking, nonsmoking, conservative Christian lady. Am handicapped but still working (from home). Love to travel. Have RV and laptop, will travel. Seeking companionship. Matrimony?
I lost my ass, and three rental properties with that crash. But I recovered as I was already established in my industry and was able to travel the world to where the jobs were.
However, COVID lockdowns finished the business and I scrape by with some part time contract work. It only got worse with Chomo Joe and his merry band of Marxists regulating eveyrthing and massive inflation. I went to a Christmas party at my main client and EVERYONE who has moneybags to invest has been sitting on cash and are all excited to start manufacturing again once this desiccated filthy degenerate crooked chomo is sent out to pasture in a couple weeks.
Sorry to hear about your IT skills getting hit for so long. I am optimistic things are going to be very good for a few years.
if it floats flies or fux it’s cheaper to rent it...
Thank you.
The Lord has His plan.
Guess I’m along for the ride.
Ouch 🤕🤕🤕
To each of you on this thread, know you are not alone.
Your words show your hearts and they prick my own heart.
I am currently with a wonderful wife. I know either of us will likely be without the other, someday.
May God be with us and may we glorify Him.
And may each of us meet in Heaven.
Persevere until the end, my dear friends.
I will be thinking on your words for a while. I will probable even read some of your post to my wife.
I will also pray for you and those in your care.
Do you have certifications? Those help open doors.
Jim, I think that is beautifully put.
Mostly a lot of training / experience on IBM mainframes a bit of Windows development with one particular tool
But I’m rusty
IBM midrange too mostly AS/400
Plus database design on multiple platforms

Please consider Information Security, AI, or Cloud certifications. Pick one and complete it. It will open up many job opportunities.
I have multiple InfoSec certs. You could consider an Amazon certification, and Amazon will give you free services to help learn and pass at least your first one. AI is now the big thing at my company, and they really want people to have AI certs. This is cutting edge, and there's not a lot available to take, but it's not rocket science. I would encourage you with AI or Amazon, if the InfoSec stuff doesn't show up on jobs in your physical area.
Go to Indeed.com and type in a cert like CISSP and see what jobs are available within a 30 mile circle. Do that with other respected certs. Do that with your mainframe and AS/400 keywords, on there, too. Use this to help you move forward.

Thank you
I’ll take a look!
It is just a part of life and how each of us approaches it, copes with problems or endures what we can’t change.
God bless you, Jim. Prayers up that your ad be answered!
