Back when I was commuting to work, I would see all sorts of 4WD/AWD vehicles in the medians and ditches, and one of the reasons was that their drivers had no idea that the things might go through snow and mud better, but they were no panacea on ice.
My late FIL used to say that four wheel drive made it likely that you would be about 50 feet further into the drift when someone came to pull you out. He was only half joking when he'd say it.
That’s because far too many people with 4 wheel drive think they don’t need snow tires since they have 4 wheel drive.
Then they drive like idiots because they think they’re invincible. Cause they’re showing off because they have 4 wheel drive.
