The man who ruined country music.

He is an actor/performer.

Country music got murdered way before Garth.

I’m a Possum, Patsy Cline country fan, but the fact the entire show was recorded and shared is a thing.

So, you liked him then?

He had poppy country music.

I grew up with Patsy Cline, Crystal Gayle, Dolly Parton, Mickey Gilley, George Jones, and that era, and my mom dated Sherwood Cryer (Owner of Gilley’s).

I can appreciate all kinds of music. Even this guy, Oliver Anthony, who I’m currently listening to a CD/discography.

I’m a fan of his sound.

I heard "Friends in Low Places" in 2000/2001 . . . somewhere around then and was blown away by the simple and fun tune.

My daughter bought me a two tape pack and I listened to it once.

I still will stop and sing along with "Low Places" with nostalgia.

I just plain LIKE the tune, the message, the song.

I saw Kitty Wells, Ernest Tub, Mickey Gilley and Loretta Lynne on a tour together here in the 70s

The Most Beautiful Girl (Charlie Rich)

I STILL have the 8 track, and a player for this song.

My parents told me to not go out for choir.

My mom had a daughter with Sherwood Cryer. I’m VERY familiar with him and the dudes from ZZTop. Willie, too.

And probably any country musician who went thru Gilley’s.

My wife was an AR/AP for Backstage Sound and Lighting in the 90s.

Every time I read something about this man, I’m reminded of what my Aunt said. She lived in Oklahoma near his hometown. I asked her if she knew him and her response, “We didn’t like him when he was swinging from ropes down here.”

I believe her remark meant that Brooks’ performance antics and his liberalism in a very conservative area of a very conservative state, were viewed by most Oklahoma natives very negatively. Enough to make me take notice especially coming from my favorite, life long Baptist, Aunt.

There is such a correlation between artistic talent and liberal idiocy. I have always wondered why that is. Very few folks who are artistic are conservative or have the courage to openly admit it. I guess since both art and liberalism live in a world of “feelings” it just makes sense that artistic people tend to become liberal

Don’t forget Hank Williams. He was a brilliant, gifted talent. Cold cold heart. Hey good looking. Your cheating heart. And the song that always makes me shed a tear, I’m so lonesome I could cry.

He is still the king. And always will be.

Garth couldn’t make it as a rock star so he became country reluctantly.

Charlie Rich was actually a fantastic jazz pianist before he became famous with that song.

My father used to play gigs with Mickey Gilley in Louisiana! I found that out when he took me and my friends to see Urban Cowboy in the 80s and we were excitedly telling him all about the movie. When I breathlessly told him about a man named Mickey Gilley and ‘Gilley’s - the country music dance hall/bar- he mentioned offhand that they used to play gigs together back in the 50’s!

He has worked gigs with many, many late great musicians!

Best piano player I ever saw live in person was Jerry Lee Lewis, followed very closely by his cousin Mickey Gilley...

I have a half sister from Sherwood...

My dad got booted out of Urban Cowboy for arguing with the asshole John Travolta about the scene in the thunderstorm.

The house that ‘Uncle Bud’ lived in the movie is still standing, and still the same color blue.

If you look up Backstage Sound and Lighting (out of College Station) from 1990 - 1999 my wife was at pretty much every show working...

We should chat - I think we’ve probably had paths crossed at some point... I live 1/2 mile or so away from the house that Farrah Fawcett “burned down” from ‘The Burning Bed’ movie...

Most of the day, I’m listening to channel 808-1 on DirecTV, “Classic Country Ultra”. Great music!

I have to admit that when I heard “I’m Gonna Hire A Wino To Decorate Our Home” I had to LOL for a long time.

Mickey Gilley’s version of “True Love Ways” is one of my favorites. It’s beautiful.

Nothing better than Jerry Lee singing a lonely song...

“Now, blue ain’t the word for the way that I feel

And a storm’s brewing in this heart of mine

This ain’t no crazy dream, I know that it’s real

You’re someone else’s love now
You’re not mine”
