I don't agree with it either. What about American BBQ?
I've been smoking ribs, brisket, chicken, etc. from a young age. It's always been my favorite.

One of the best pieces of meat I have ever eaten was a venison tenderloin smoked with apple wood. The meat was from a young doe, a yearling a friend shot and butchered. He had a smoker and smoked lots of meats. I couldn’t help myself from having not just seconds, but thirds. Delicious!

Meanwhile, American cuisine placed 13th in the world (4.42), per TasteAtlas, which touted American lobster, Pacific smoked salmon and South Texas-style BBQ as the cream of the US culinary crop.
Lobster is the best we can do? The chicken of the sea that has almost no flavor on it's own..?
And while smoked salmon is good, I certainly wouldn't put it up as one of the dishes for 'best of' these US!
