Why should Ukraine worry about two nations that don’t worry about Ukraine?
Here’s the reason I, from Virginia, should be concerned about people in Maine, or Great Britain, or for that matter, other people in Virginia: they worry about me. It’s mutual defense.
As for Ukraine, we could have done for Ukraine what we did for Hungary in 1956 or Czechoslovakia in 1968. “Could have.” There are times, for selfish reasons, you let things go. Things worked out well in in the case of eastern Europe in that the Soviet Union fell apart, as it would inevitably fall apart, at which point we won the Cold War.
By such reasoning, Great Britain stood by and let Germany take the Sudetenland and, then, the rest of Czechoslovakia. That didn’t work out well. Great Britain didn’t win “peace in our time,” but soon found itself in an existential war with Nazi Germany.
As to where we are at this time regarding Ukraine is a matter of opinion. We have one president at a time and, mostly the opinion that counts, now, is Donald Trump’s.
So the fact that Ukraine doesn’t worry about two countries by cutting off gas and oil to them means that those two countries should care about Ukraine?
Seriously I am really tired of having our children’s future mortgaged to pay for the war in Ukraine, exactly when has the war against communism ever worked out, Korea, Vietnam?
