We knew that Squid Game would be huge when it returned for season 2, given that season 1 was the most-watched Netflix series ever by a significant margin. But now it has set an entirely new record.
We don’t know viewership yet, it’s too early for that, though of course that’s going to be enormous. Rather, the record in question is that Squid Game season 2 is the first series to debut at #1 in all 93 countries where Netflix is available. That’s everywhere from the US, of course, to Cyprus to Honduras to Kenya to Oman to Thailand. The entire globe.
This simply doesn’t happen. Even big shows that do well on global charts never debut simultaneously at #1 on the service, as some regions always prefer one series over another, however popular. But here this is a clean sweep for Squid Game, which is not something the original achieved as it took some time to go fully viral. But not Stranger Things, not Wednesday, not anything else.

Although I found Squid Game 2 entertaining the unrealistic part for me is that after the first game they did NOT vote to leave the game. It got even more ridiculous after the second and third games when they could have left with decent amounts of money. Yet they voted to remain despite the certainty that most of them would die horrible deaths? That I don't buy.
BTW, I would like to see a Squid Game season in which the participants are all K-Pop stars. That way when they are killed off it would feel oddly satisfying. Oh, and some of the stars of Squid Games are actually K-Pop stars.
One definitely has to adopt maximum suspension of disbelief for Squid Games. I found the first season so ridiculous I barely made it through. Really? They kept this entire industrial island a secret? None of the masked drones quit and blabbed after living in solitary confinement?
Then again. It is Koreawood. They do enjoy their histrionics.
What’s a “Netflix record”?
Ever hear of a certain D.C. area pizzeria?
You can also have a murder in the White House and have it almost completely covered up thanx to a cooperative media so keeping such an island a secret is not a big stretch.
You can also assassinate a President in broad daylight and, despite all the evidence indicating a conspiracy, have it covered up by having the as the lead investigator the very person who put together the assassination conspiracy. So, again, keeping a Squid Games island a secret is no great stretch. Anybody making such allegations could be written off as a “conspiracy theorist.”
loved it, but of course they “HAD” to include a trans in it this time.
Season 1 was quite creative and different. So I’m ready to check out Season 2.
Yes ... none of it makes any sense but I don’t care. I welcome some mindless entertainment.
What is it about? Is it a game?
It was so gross 🤮
A show without pedos harming children.
