I used to trap and headlight, starting 69 years ago (I was eight). Coons got me 75 cents, but were hell to skin and nail square on the barn. I got $2.50 for a ringtail, though, and I could skin and stretch one in about a minute. I quit shooting coons, and used ringtail urine to bait my traps, so by 1967 the coons were safe from me.

I got bitten a few times, but I was the one doing the “attacking.” Never had one come after me.

When I started trapping in 1968.

5 to 20 for a coon was common.

By the early 80’s 25 to 40.

Now you can hardly give them away.

Lots of good memories running a trap line.
