Russia reportedly attempted to make the Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash in to the sea by refusing permission to let it land after a missile attack before jamming its navigation system.
A Russian surface-to-air missile struck the flight on Christmas Day, causing the airliner to crash in Kazakhstan - a tragedy which claimed the lives of 38 people.
Sources told Euronews that the missile was fired at Flight 8432 amid drone air activity above Grozny, the Chechen capital, citing a preliminary investigation.
They said the pilot was blocked from landing at any Russian airports despite making emergency pleas, and was instead ordered to carry on into Kazakhstan.
Taking to X, citing pro-government media, The Azeri Times confirmed that the Azerbaijan Airlines plane was denied emergency landings by Russia at three nearby conditions, despite its critical condition.
The news outlet also stated that the plane was subjected to 'extreme GPS jamming' which forced its hero pilot, Aleksandr Kalyaninov, to divert the flight over the Caspian Sea, where it eventually landed in Aktau, Kazakhstan.
Local media cited government sources in suggesting jammers 'paralysed' the plane's communication systems'.
According to Flightradar24 data, the aircraft departed Azerbaijan's capital, Baku, at 03:55am and valid position data was received from the aircraft until 04:25am when the flight encountered 'significant GPS interference'.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17/MAS17) was a scheduled passenger flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur that was shot down by Russian-backed forces with a Buk 9M38 surface-to-air missile on 17 July 2014

Much evidence it was shot down by Ukrainian authorities. Russia was never allowed to participate in the western investigation.
I do not know why you assume that I am a “neocon”. One can despise Putin and not warmly embrace his enemies. In the Ukraine-Russia war, Putin is clearly the aggressor. Russian incompetence and callousness has been on vivid display, once again. What U.S. policy towards Ukraine or Russia should be is an open question, but governed by one unalterable principle, which I have previously stated: If one ballistic missile from Russia is launched towards the United States, it will signal the end of Russian “civilization”.
Follow Putin at your peril.
I’m wondering how a bird strike made that tail section look like a B-17’s that just landed after a raid on Sweinfurt.
Sounds a bit like more Anti-Russia, butt kissing Ukraine “journalism”.
First, who fired the missile? It is totally immaterial that the missile was made in Russia. So, the US now gets blamed for every bit of ordinance from our factories? That is BS.
If Russia ordered the firing, that is a different thing. But, still justified.
Bases in Azer (I am not going to spell that out every time) wereunder heavy attack of numerous drones. That is why everyone was warned away from the area and there was radar and GPS jamming. That is why US airlines are banned from serving in that area.
That is also why the plane was banned from landing in Azer. How is a defending party supposed to know that the plane is not a suicide plane filled with explosives? What, the US has never been rammed by planes?
Blaming Russia is how the airline, who should have known better, avoids payouts to the passengers they put at risk. It is about a clause in their insurance policy.
