The topic is about military matters, you obviously lack background to reasonably discuss them.

Your post was: It didn’t take long for these stupid articles to appear. I don't believe that qualifies as reasonable discussion of Matt's post.

But hey, Mayór, obviously you haven't gotten recalled to the colors, and killed in Ukraine, yet. Hopefully the war, err, "special military operation" will end while that is still the case.

I think you are confusing me with someone else. As a side note, these light brigades don’t work too well for Ukraine for some reason except for their atrocious casualty rates.

The ruling power in any country can lose popular support but maintain its rule by being brutal. But there’s a tradeoff between brutality and popular support. The more brutal, the more power, but the less support. There’s a fine line to tread and once you go over the brutality-too-far line the support drops to zero and no additional brutality can suffice. Assad had passed over the line and it was the Russian supplying the brutality and the Russians couldn’t keep up the brutality and their other obligations. Once the Russians pulled the brutality plug there wasn’t a sufficient supply of loyal Assad people to keep up the required brutality.

Wagner Mercenaries and Hezbollah provided the brutality in Syria.

Putin had to use his Mercenaries in Ukraine. Iran decided to attack Israel with Hezbollah. All of a sudden, Assad is exposed.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if most of the pilots manning the helicopters and planes were Russian. But now they're all in Ukraine. So Assad can no longer have air support to take out the enemy before they attack.

Years ago, I saw a video that followed a Syrian Airforce pilot through a mission from start in the briefing to finish. My guess is he was in his mid to late fifties. He looked to be substantially overweight. He had the all upfront belly I would call a beer belly. The plane was either a MIG 15 or 17. The video pointed out it was OLD. The ordinance was something like an oil drum packed with explosives but with wooden fins bolted on. The pilot had some ridiculous number of flight hours. I don’t recall the number, but the narrator made mention it was a LOT of hours. The plane was already ten years late to the bone pile and I’m sure it was probably one of their better ones as you wouldn’t put a super experienced pilot in one of your less usable planes. My guess; there effectively wasn’t a Syrian air force as it aged out long ago.

The Syrians had a formidable military in the '70s when they attacked Israel.

But it was with Soviet aid, I guess they weren't able to upgrade their military equipment after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Similar to Cuba.
