Something you were told by an evangelical pastor no doubt. But I'm afraid that it isn't true. Herodotus referred to the region as "Palestine" in the fifth century B.C.
The story of the region's being named that only after the Romans finally put down the Bar Kokhba revolt in 135 A.D. is true only insofar as the Romans formally adopted the "Palestine" label at that point in time. But the name itself had been coined and applied to the region several centuries before. It was not new to the Romans.
