called ransomware an "enormous problem," and says no sector, company, or type of organization is off limits to hackers. There are estimates that global losses from ransom payments exceed $1 billion a year.

I would hate to get hit with a ransomware attack but... $1B is peanuts on a global scale. I truly thought this was a 10-100X larger problem.

The criminals should pray they are all caught before vigilantes figure out how to track them down. Any of them get doxxed and they will not be long for this world.

I haven’t said anything like that but I don’t see law enforcement solving the problem. I think you are right.
The hackers will eventually hack the wrong people. They will get caught and we will read about them hanging off a bridge upside down or being found years later in a 55 gallon barrel.

One billion is likely a vast understatement. That number likely assumes that all hacking is reported. whats more realistic is under half is reported. So who knows what the true number is.
If you run a huge company is your first thought to report that your company has been hacked and is now worthless until its stopped? Will you automatically call the FBI and then tell the world, not likely.
