Lara Trump joining the Senate would be a wild new ethical frontier

DeSantis naming Lara Trump to fill Rubio’s seat wouldn’t be the most corrupt appointment from a governor like Rod Blagojevich did when considering candidates to fill Barack Obama’s seat.

Ted Kennedy. Because the younger Kennedy was too young to take up the remainder of the term family patriarch Joseph Kennedy instructed Gov. Foster Furcolo to name a family friend as placeholder. Say what you will about Joe’s tactics, but Teddy won the seat fair and square in the 1962 midterm elections and held it until his death in 2009.

“ I prefer Matt Geatz”

Me too.

Which just might be the plan.

From Ronny’s point of view.

If he wants to remain the king of Florida politics, Lara Trump might be a risky choice as she could take some of his shine and maybe his crown so to speak.

The safe pick is Matt Gaetz.

I don’t think Gaetz would threaten what Jeb 2.0 has going in Florida politics.

Gaetz thinks bigger whether that is his strength or flaw is debatable.

I prefer DeSantis in the Senate. It keeps him involved.

I really don’t like the idea of political dynasties.

Appointing Lara has a bad look. I admire candidates who run and win.

My picks would be Gaetz or Donalds.

That said, picking Lara wouldn't bother me nor should it. She would be a great MAGA senator. And I don't care that some anti-MAGA wouldn't like it. Don't be so concerned about what they think.

“Appointing Lara has a bad look.”

Terrible. Dreadful. Carpetbagger-y.

There are others more deserving who are actual Floridians.

These same people loved JFK hiring his brother as the AG.

JFK trusted his brother and thought he would be a good pick. So what.

The concern controls hate the JFK, RFK pick.

Apples and Oranges argument. Blagojevich was indicted for attempting to sell Obamas vacancy to the highest bidder. Read the indictment. I don’t see similarities.

I think Laura would be great. There are so many Republican traitors in the senate it would be nice to have an 100% loyal supporter amongst them. Someone to hold their feet to the fire and supports Trumps policy and not give it lip service.

She is just as capable as anyone in there now and 10x more loyal to the country. There are several that talk a good game (RINOs) and have allowed the country to go to hell in a hand basket.

DeSantis is ethically free to name anyone he wants, assuming no conflict of interest.

Including himself, which would probably be the best pick.

And if he wasnt to avoid any appearance of impropriety, he could resign his governorship and allow Lt. Gov. Jeanette Núñez to appoint him after she assumes the position.

Floridians have gotten Bushed by family political dynasties.

Jeb Bush was a very popular, successful, and well-liked governor of Florida, re-elected by an even greater margin that he was originally elected with.

He'd have probably been a more effective president than his brother was.

Point taken, but they don't have to be the direct relative of the President.

Baloney. This is nothing like blagovich who sold the seat. She would have to stand for reelection like anybody else very soon. This is just a bunch of ankle biters. This news outlet, and DC complaining about ethics is a sick joke.

“ DeSantis naming Lara Trump to fill Rubio’s seat”

No and heck no.
Earn it.
No dynasties .
No Kennedy dynasties, Bush dynasties or Trump dynasties.
No, no , no.

This is what Trump is fighting against .
He can’t do it with his own family .
