A bit off-topic, but my favorite Red Skeleton story. Red talking:

I was at a baseball game, and someone yelled out, “Red Skeleton is here!” Everyone turned and looked at me. Many people even applauded.

I was embarrassed by all the attention. Maybe I shouldn’t have yelled that out.

We have the pledge here in Texas along with the Texas pledge.
Kids mostly half heartedly do it.
I was in and inner-city school where the principal made a real production out of it, music lead in and everything. I was shocked because it’s a 90% black student population and staff.

I’m a retired urban public high school teacher. We started every day with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Well, one day a smarmy white kid decided not to stand. I tried to reason with him. All I got back was sass. So I reported him to the principal. That principal was a rarity in city schools, a tough old army veteran who took no nonsense.

Sorry, he told me. The school board has already decided that standing for the Pledge was optional. Just another stupid decision on their part. Then they wonder why their schools are a mess.

When I first read the headline I was wondering what a Red Skeleton had to do with the Pledge of Allegiance.

I’ve been trying to for 11 years to no avail. She starts screaming too loudly and blocks it out and the more I try to calm her down to listen the louder she gets and then her Mother comes in and splits us up.

As long as I am alive she will not !!! The Little Man is Papa’s best Buddy. He spends most of His time with Me.🤠 I don’t yell at Him when He’s in trouble, I talk to and explain to Him why He’s in trouble and how to avoid it again and that He needs to apologize. (BTW He’s ADD. He usually gets in trouble for hitting someone at school.)

If for no other reason the kids should stand to show appreciation for (1) living in this relatively free and prosperous country and (2) having the taxpayers pay for their education. If they don’t want to cite the pledge they should at least show a modicum of respect by getting out of their seat and standing up to show respect. Its not too much to ask.
