Trent Reznor when asked about Cash’s version said that Cash owned it now. I took it to mean that there was nothing Reznor could do to make it his song again. Forever more, people would think of Cash even though Reznor wrote the song and was the original singer.

I saw the clip of Reznor saying that. He showed honest humility with a most sincere compliment to Cash. I think he was honored that the icon, that was Cash, covered his work.

Not many remakes outshine the original. I totally agree with these two songs, along with Whitney's remake of I Will Always Love You, AND, Home Free and Lee Greenwood remaking
