The whole Russian economy is about to tank hard unless Putin leaves Ukraine
“I see these prices, my eyes get wide” said the man paying $82 for a bag of groceries at Kroger.
They do have Kroger in Russia, right?
I understand.
I am trying to read tea leaves here and predict Putin’s moves.
Are the Ruble woes and inflation caused by the invasion and the West’s sanctions?
If yes, does Putin giving up and leaving Ukraine automatically remove the sanctions?
How fast would their economy improve?
And, how bad does it have to get for the average Russian for their pain to influence Putin’s decision making?
So many questions.
Eggs $3.97/dozen
Walmart
Osprey, FL
USA
The weather in the other St. Petersburg is much better, but the prices are much worse; at $187 a month s/he would be in a homeless shelter or in a park, eating at Metropolitan Ministries.
“eggs, potatoes, or butter”
These are all domestic products.
The Russian chickens don’t give a cluck about the Ukraine/Russian war.
The Russian cows don’t give a moo or a boo about the Ukraine/Russian war.
A recent comment here on FR:
“the current median house price in Fairfax County [near DC] is $765K”
$187 monthly pension not stronk.
I think ours is tanking pretty hard too. We haven’t had to lock up the butter and dairy yet but the stores are definitely caging up the power tools now, and watch the baby food aisles like hawks because of the thieving by criminal resellers.
As for potatoes, Putin could raise the tax on vodka and subsidize potatoes.
Poverty is the norm for most Russians and tens of millions of Americans, year after year.
“butter”
The price of olive oil shot up in the EU.
price of a dozen eggs at Aldi
once $1.07 under Trump
As I recollect $3.96 under Biden now
Russia will not lose the Ukraine war, or leave the war, because of inflation and GDP growth and inflation. I don’t believe that will break the war effort.
Russia will have to leave Ukraine when it runs out of vehicles and equipment to prosecute the war. Then, they will have to make a hard decision. The Ukrainians have a manpower shortage, but equipment and artillery are reaching the front now. The Russians have no people shortage, but are running out of Tanks/APC’s and equipment, and potentially artillery. The Russians have been pushing hard to take ground for negotiations, as they cannot ‘win’ the special military operation at this point.
Peace would be best for everyone, but I suspect that Biden is making sure that the Ukrainians will have everything they need for 2025 summer offensive. That’s going to embolden the Ukrainian side, to take territory for negotiation.
Putin doesn’t want to ‘negotiate’ a settlement, he might be more willing come the fall of 2025.
ZEEPER FOLLIES PINGLIST!(((PING!)))
I’m back in the U.S.S.R
You don’t know how lucky you are, boy
Back in the U.S.S.R
Any moment now Ruzzia will collapse and be annexed by YouCrayne.
The laughs get better.
Although, we don't need to buy them, nor, butter, chicken, beef, goose, duck, vegetables, etc. We get all that from my in-laws who raise and grow their own stuff.
My only complaint about the above is, I need to teach them how to slaughter next year's cow so I can get my prime cuts out of it. But if I'm in the mood for a nice juicy steak, I can get one at the store for about 2.00.
