I fear that you are correct. The Islamic radicals now in control of Syria will behave…but only for a while. Once the spotlight is off them, they will do what Islamists are driven to do - kill infidels.
Over half a million Syrians have been killed under Assad since 2011. I’d guess Christians have been well represented.
Remember too that Putin and Assad’s Hezbollah minions have been terrorizing Lebanese Christians for years.
