“Why they are making most trucks with double cabs now is beyond me”

Because people now buy trucks as a status symbol to haul the whole family around for one thing.

I serve on my church’s parking team, you should see some of the trucks that come in, high level trim packages, a lot are 4x4 and the whole family bails out......I don’t know how people afford the fuel much less the payment......somebody’s got the money, but it sure ain’t me. 😏

I've got a double cab truck. No interest in "status". I use the truck because it can haul up to 10,000 pounds behind me and because I regularly buy/carry 10-15 80 pound sacks of pelleted horse feed in the bed.

I also take the grandkids with us when we go camping.

Plus, it is our vacation vehicle. Once a year we load up the grandkids and take them with us from southern Arizona to northern Utah and back. The extra room inside the truck makes the trip far more enjoyable than using our 2012 XTerra - which was still a bit nicer than when we used our 2017 Camry.

Lots of folks probably buy double cab trucks because CARS WITH ROOM are banned by EPA gas mileage mandates!

A modern Camry is the size of an old Corolla. A modern van IS a mini-van. A family with 4 kids is now almost out of luck. Cars that hold 6 people are hard to find! Cars that hold 5? Well, pity the three in the back seat!

I bought my latest double cab 4wd Ford in 2017 after a hailstorm destroyed its predecessor. Used it moving equipment in the hayfields for five or six seasons, now mostly haul fertilizer or seed with it, along with tools and equipment in the bed. Oh, and hauling the occasional (deceased) deer or feral hog out of the woods, going to the processor.

Hardly ever use the rear seats for passengers, but it often keeps equipment, luggage, and firearms out of the rain and secure.

If you told anybody who knows me that it’s a status symbol, they would get a seriously good laugh.

Oh, it gets better gas mileage around town than my wife’s Ford Flex, about equal on the highway. Might do as well on the highway if Texas had not raised the speed limit to 75.

Up until I was in my 20’s, if the whole family was going somewhere in the Truck, everyone but mom and dad rode in the back

I’ve seen and heard about when people completely lose their minds over an accident. I would say because they are paying 80-100k for a means of transportation; that places a high premium on it. It also shows where their priorities are a lot of times.
Hey, if a wealthy and blessed person has expensive cars, that’s one thing. It’s when the less well off get them that makes you wonder.
