What does schtum mean in British slang?

Are you completely incapable of looking up something on the internet? It took me all of five seconds to find out what it meant.

Well, how in the heck do you think I found out?
I was just trying to save other people the trouble.
I apologize if that offended you for some reason.

Why should I have to look up words on the internet? If I find a word in an article that I have to go to a dictionary for, I don’t read the article any further. It’s rude of a writer to use words that are not commonly known when there are perfectly good words available that people already understand. But congratulations for using five seconds of your time to look up a word. You could actually have done better if you dropped the definition in your post instead of belittling someone who was asking a question. This is a fine example of how anonymity works to coarsen the discourse between people. You might like the commenter if you actually knew them. It might be some really beautiful woman or a little old lady or a disabled veteran. Doesn’t matter because they are stupid.
