So marvelous until your navy can no longer defend your trade routes because there are no ports open where you need them to be. Foreign aid gives us the ability to protect critical supply lines and the ability to avoid the modern day equivalent of having the capital burned down and ports blockaded by superior naval powers.
Drones are changing the way we project power but for the moment, the supply lines are still insured by the USN.
Agree. We need to pick and choose wisely.
“Foreign aid gives us the ability to protect critical supply lines”
If true—and it is debatable—let us just bribe the foreign leaders directly—and call them bribes.
At a minimum we need some honesty.
You mean the supply lines bringing us oil that we could have extracted here if not for insane restrictions on drilling, or the lines bringing us manufactured goods from China that we used to manufacture here?
When you make what you need at home, it’s amazing all the things you DON’T have to do.
Some foreign aid must be maintained. Of course. Also many countries rely on us using their ports etc for their own economies.
That said a lot of foreign aid is corruption pure and simple. Example: $1B Biden just gave to Africa while people made homeless by the hurricanes here are living in tents during the cold. A lot of that needs to be cut.
IF these United States of America had the most powerful and motivated military on this planet other countries would be begging us to accept bases and ports around the world at THEIR expense. too many politicians are concerned with how they look to their foreign contemporaries and want “friends” to impress instead of earning respect through pure FEAR of pissing off America. our politicians are confused about what our role in the modern world should be...walk softly, carry the BIGGEST stick, and if you decide to screw with us we will BEAT YOU with that stick and then make YOU Clean up the mess.
“there are no ports open where you need them to be. “
If we have to pay then we don’t need those ports that badly.
That’s a non sequitur
They’re talking about cutting off foreign aid, not closing bases
