According to tradition, St. Nicholas' remains were moved to Bari, Italy to protect his remains from being desecrated by the invading Muslims (as were their habit, peace be unto them and their pedo-profit). Then after that, again according to tradition, pieces of his remains were scattered to different churches here and there so everybody could have a piece of him.
Maybe that's how he gets around the world so fast on Christmas Eve. He's already spread out across the world. LOL

RE so everybody could have a piece of him.
Sort of like good guys in martial arts movies challenging the thugs to fight.
“Anybody here want a piece of me? C’mon.”

I’ve been to Bari. The church which supposedly has his remains gets a lot of pilgrims. When I was there there were buses from Poland, and I met a woman who had come on her own from Russia just to visit St. Nicholas’ tomb.
