In the picture in the article, #2 doesn’t look like a casing to me — it looks like a whole, unfired cartridge.
Caliber appears to be 9mm and the casing resembles Critical Defense steel case.
Picture is low-res so it’s hard to tell for sure.

Yeah, I’m guessing he forceloaded the slide knowing the silencer would mess up the loading mechanism and since two shots cycled after firing he ended up ejecting unfired bullets
