My guess is that the police are searching all cameras in the area going back at least two weeks. The killer did not just improvise his escape, but certainly scouted it out beforehand. By looking for someone who matches the partial image of the killer from the Starbucks camera, they will get a better view of his uncovered face.
Amateur, not a professional hit: (i) used a semiautomatic instead of a revolver to avoid spent casings; (ii) used a silencer; (iii) fired from too far away, instead of point blank in the head; (iv) gun jammed, not prepared or used properly; (v) ended up on too many surveillance cameras, including at Starbucks; (vi) loitered too long outside the victim’s hotel.
