The deep state and the public state are both stonewalling real data on immigration, because their entire raison d'etre is to stave off the repeated rise of fascism, and that hinges on the notion that all people are exactly the same, with no difference, and to say otherwise is racist and must be stamped out, when the facts are that there is a demonstrable difference between different peoples and different cultures. If the ruling class concedes this, the entire justification for their rule is exploded, so they refuse to admit to reality, and hiding the data is a part of that facade, but freelancing journalists and organizations are uncovering the data independent of the ruling class.
