My brother in law took me to Doral in 1977, I was a 10 handicap, and shot 101, but was happy as hell to play the course.

I don't think that Trump owned it back then, but it was a tough course for a a hacker, like me.

My memory of the course after 40 plus years is hazy, but it didn't compare to Pebble Beach in CA or even several other Florida courses, back then.

There is no doubt that Doral is now a show case club, and the course is immaculate and very tough but today, us peons, couldn't afford to hit balls on the range.

I'm thrilled to have played there, and at many other of the today pro tournament courses, that are now so expensive, that I'd have to pass because of the outrageous fees.

Just because you can afford to pay, doesn't mean you have to do it...thank God for America.

Not true - it is surprisingly affordable as my link above shows. Only $200-500 depending on options for the full course. Cheaper than a concert.
