Somebody obviously never watched the movie.
True that?
That’s right: There were Soviet advisors and a few boots; but the invasion was by Cubans.
It was the Soviet Union, Warsaw pact and their Latin Allies, remember the Russian/Soviet paratroops and the Spetsnaz?.
“In the town of Calumet, Colorado, a high school class is interrupted by a Soviet-led invasion. Some students, including brothers Jed and Matt Eckert, escape the chaos as Soviet paratroopers attack. Combined Soviet, Cuban and Nicaraguan soldiers then occupy Calumet.”

You sure got that wrong, it was a Soviet led invasion of America.
In the 1984 film, Russia and Cuba are the invading forces. In the 2012 remake, the North Koreans are the only nation that invades the United States.
The original (as usual) is the better movie.
