Sorry but, if he survived the jump, there is no chance that D.B. Cooper would have gathered up the parachute and taken it home with him. The jump was into an extremely remote, heavily forested area. He would have abandoned it possibly after trying to hide/camouflage it somewhat.

During the jump, the hijacker probably lost the bag containing the ransom money. $5200 cash of the ransom money was recovered years later in a creek in the vicinity of the jump site. The serial numbers matched the ransom money.

The thinking is that the hijacker had an accomplice on the ground who picked him up. Taking the parachute and unique harness with him deprived the authorities of potential clues to his identity. My guess is that the hijacker also had a walkie talkie, a compass, and a powerful flashlight with him when he jumped.

I’ve watched several documentaries on this through the years and I think they found pieces of the parachute and some money in the woods where he jumped.
