The Bedford Incident (That’s it! I knew I’d seen the “NATO Missiles in Russia” movie before)
YouTube ^ | 1965 | James B. Harris

At the time The Bedford Incident was produced, Harris was best known as the producer of three of Stanley Kubrick's films. The two parted ways when Kubrick decided to make Dr. Strangelove as a satirical black comedy, rather than a dramatic thriller, but Harris remained focused on developing a serious nuclear confrontation film, and The Bedford Incident was released less than two years after Dr. Strangelove.

“Kiss of Death” is another great Widmark film.

It’s been reported that in order to refine the staccato delivery in his portrayal of a vicious criminal, Widmark visited jazz clubs in New York City prior to filming.

I hope the mad clowns running the West for the next 60 days can stop their madness.

The bad news is the guys pulling the global strings want to drastically deplete the global population.

The Guidestones as they stood in 2009.
Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
Guide reproduction wisely – improving fitness and diversity.
Unite humanity with a living new language.
Rule passion – faith – tradition – and all things with tempered reason.
Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
Balance personal rights with social duties.
Prize truth – beauty – love – seeking harmony with the infinite.
Be not a cancer on the Earth – Leave room for nature – Leave room for nature.
That means they need to kill off 7.5 trillion people.

“Biden in 1997 saying that the only thing that could provoke a “vigorous and hostile” Russian response would be if NATO expanded as far as the Baltic states.”

“Don’t Bother to Knock” — I just finished watching it. Very good thriller movie. Marilyn Monroe always amazes me with her stage emotions and theatrical range. She did a great job of a young woman sinking into despair and insanity for a man lost in WW II. I was left wondering if there ever was a “Phillip” lost in the Pacific in WW II or if she just conjured him up.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Nixon said how important it was to speak often with your enemies. He spoke with Brezhnev often. During one of the Israeli wars Brezhnev told Nixon he was moving a large amount of troops into some Valley near Israel. And then told Nixon that to counter that, he would need to send USA troops into the region.

Nixon told him that was nuts to have both armies in such close proximity - just waiting for an accident to happen. Nixon added “I don’t need to send troops into the area to stop an invasion.”

Brezhnev got the hint, and never sent his troops.

Some other very close calls related to when KAL 007 was shot down by the Soviets in 1983. It had accidentally strayed into Soviet airspace.

https://www.airandspaceforces.com/article/the-near-nuclear-war-of-1983/

On a mission after the crash a USAF recon plane was over the crash site, out of Soviet airspace. USSR fighters were sent to shoot it down. US fighters were sent, but the recon plane had fled to Japan’s territory, and the US jets were ordered not to engage the Soviets.

Some other general asked why they didn’t pursue the Soviets and shoot them down? “I decided I didn’t want to start WWIII today.”

Below is an even more unbelievable story from the same article about the right Soviet guy being in the right place:

Weeks later, early on the morning of Sept. 27, the USSR’s National Missile Defense Center received warnings from its new missile detection satellites that the United States had launched intercontinental ballistic missiles from Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D. (one source cites F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo.). The Soviet watch commander that night, Lt. Col. Stanislav Petrov of the Air Defense Forces, was a signal processing engineer—not a typical watch stander—and he was subbing for a sick comrade. Petrov possessed unique knowledge of the strengths and flaws in the Soviets’ new satellite warning system, and assessed that the launch reports—which came in several, harrowing waves—must be false alarms. Petrov advised his leadership against a retaliatory attack.

Petrov—the accidental watch commander—was truly the right man in the right place at the right time. It took Soviet technical experts months to determine what went wrong that night. Eventually, they concluded that a highly unusual set of atmospheric conditions over the northern tier of the United States caused sunlight to be reflected off high clouds in such a way that the satellites’ sensors mistook the reflections as ICBM launches. Petrov had to make an assessment in minutes, not months. Had the Kremlin ignored Petrov and instead acted on the phantom American ICBM attack, the world would have been plunged into global nuclear war.

The Petrov incident remained unknown in the West until the late 1990s, after the fall of the Soviet Union. Word began to leak out as former Soviet officers felt free to speak and even write about the harrowing event. In a 2013 interview with the BBC, Petrov recalled how the monitors on his watch lit up with the warning first of a launch, and then an impending strike. First one missile, then another, and another, ultimately counting five incoming strikes. “There were no rules about how long we were allowed to think before we reported a strike,” he recalled. “But we knew that every second of procrastination took away valuable time; that the Soviet Union’s military and political leadership needed. And then I made my decision. I picked up the telephone handset, spoke to my superiors, and reported that the alarm was false. But I, myself, was not sure, until the very last moment. I knew perfectly well that nobody would be able to correct my mistake if I had made one.”

Unlike Donnelly [US General that called off our fighters], who would ultimately earn a fourth star following his deft handling of the KAL 007 tragedy, Petrov was punished for not following protocols; he was never promoted again. But he was eventually was awarded the Dresden Peace Prize and became the subject of a 2014 film, a documentary-drama, “The Man Who Saved the World.”

I gained a lot of respect for Nixon after reading two of his books.

Above is a 1.5 hour video of Nixon speaking at the Oxford Union in England. He took about 10 minutes for his speech, and the rest of the time is taking questions from the students.

Just amazing his knowledge, calmness to the protestors outside, and his humor. I think it is here where he gives the story about Brezhnev and Israel.

The protestors are annoying but I was able to ignore them after awhile. Nixon is unfazed, but some of the students are rattled by them as they try to ask a question amid the noise.

He also predicts that an alumni from Oxford will someday be president of the USA. (Clinton had just won his first election as governor. I’m sure Nixon saw him as up and coming. Or - they are all in the Illuminati or whatever!).
