The Putin-Medvedev crazy nuke threats didn't go over well with the Russian oligarchs who really run the country.

By definition every ballistic missile is hypersonic.
A 125mm gun has a muzzle velocity of 1800f/s and that is hyper-sonic.

I am pretty sure that is “only” supersonic, which means it is faster than sound. I have read that hypersonic means 5x the speed of sound. There have been reports that the new Russian missile goes up to 12x the speed of sound.

1800f’/s (4,000 mph) is the bottom of hypersonic speed curve.

Sorry I am not buying any of this. Nothing man made traveling at 12x SoS could be maneuvered. The slightest change in attitude and thing would go out of control and turn into a molten pile of crap.

Most all Americans would celebrate Washington DC being nuked.
The Russians know this.

The term hypersonic missile is understood to be a missile that travels at hypersonic speeds and is also maneuverable at the same time, not a simple direct ballistic path like a ballistic missile. Maybe they should come up with a new term such as ‘evasive hypersonic.’
To: central_va
I know zero about the physics of this so have to assume that you may be correct. But hypersonic weapons well slower than 12x have been used widely in this war, have they not?
To: wildcard_redneck
I think this new missile slows down when it is time to maneuver and get on final target trajectory. Nothing can “maneuver” while still in the atmosphere at hyper-sonic speed. Above the atmosphere it can maneuver but not at lower altitudes.

Another ATACMS strike on Russian and North Korean targets happening NOW.
To: Stingray51
The RV - reentry vehicle is hypersonic but does not maneuver much if at all once "set free" by the
ICBM's post boost vehicle.

Scrolling through the comments, they miss the point. The West has absolutely NO DEFENSE against these weapons…..and….they can be fitted with 1800 lbs of HE or a nuke….and the missile has six independently targeted warheads.
These scared NATO into calling an emergency meeting 26 Nov.

The Putin-Medvedev crazy nuke threats never-ending marcus propaganda spam didn't go over well with the Russian oligarchs who really run the country majority of Freepers, who are conservatives, not assistant-Democrats.

But the ridiculous Russia worshipers here already declared “”We have been warned”! and to Russia’s side on this.
But now Russia withdraws the threats so I guess these folks are more anti American than Russia!

Talked to my cousin. He was in a unit of missile defense years ago.
He said as you say except he wonders if enough flak was scattered in front if it wouldn’t work.
Like firing a hell of a huge shotgun round in front of it.
Other than that, he says the key is electronic. Scramble the electronic system somehow.

That’s why it’s so difficult to control.

Disappointed, Marcus? Is there any doubt you'd love to see Russia drop a nuclear bomb on Ukraine in hopes that would drag us and NATO into the conflict directly?
